Calla Lilly Cake
So for a wedding rehearsal dinner I was asked to make a cake for the bride, groom and bridesmaid who were all celebrating their birthdays. I decided to go with a Calla Lilly cake since I hadn’t made those flowers in awhile and felt they would look very elegant. Here is the cake:

Betty Cake
So last week an old friend of mine asked if I could make them a cake for a friends birthday party. Ok I said thinking I have enough time to do that and also Bianca’s christening cake. “What do you want?” So then he tells me they want to get a naked lady cake….
Now my policy is I won’t do erotic naked body part cakes. I just don’t feel comfy doing that and then I also don’t want to be known as the girl who makes penis/boob cakes. So I tell him I”ll do the cake if she’s wearing clothing.
So I’m very impressed with how it came out. It looks really lifelike (minus the largeness of the boobs) and I think it came out really well. It was a fun and not to hard cake to do. I wound up naming her Betty after Betty Paige.

Snowflake Wedding Cake
So this week I made my first red velvet cake. I had a cream cheese filling inside and topped the cake with a thin blue fondant. I decorated the cake with snowflakes all around with homemade royal icing. I think that I’m going to tinker a little bit with the red velvet cake recipe to make it a little more sturdy for stacking tiers. Otherwise I think the cake came out wonderful and looked great.

Daisy Wedding Cake
So this week I made a Daisy Wedding Cake for Villa Napoli’s Pasta Night. It consisted of a chocolate cake, vanilla frosting and a very thin layer of fondant on the outside, covered in a million gumpaste daisies that I hand made. I had a blast making this from top to bottom. To me making cakes is so relaxing and I very much enjoy making gumpaste flowers. I feel this is probably one of my better cakes and the more I make they just keep getting better and better.
I need to sign up for more flower and decorating classes at ICE cause I want to learn more and improve. Muppet also suggested that I look into signing up for sculpting classes, alas I don’t know anyplace to go for that. I should ask some art friends and also look at community colleges to see what they offer.
Anyways here is the cake. Let me know what you think.

Cupcake Pops
So I decided to try and make something cute and little. I made cupcake pops which are little cakes dipped in chocolate on a stick. So far they’ve been going over really well. I’m hoping that people see them and think hey this would be a great favor at my next wedding/birthday/bridal & or baby shower events. I really liked making them and think they’re going to be a regular up front at the restaurant.

Present Cake
Ok so this week I figured that I should make a cake each week and sell it at the store. Not only would it give me experience and more practice in cake designing but also I could advertise my skills and delicious art.
This week I made a present cake where truth be told if I had used turquoise fondant it would have been a Tiffany box.
Here is the picture:

Roller Derby Cake
So last night was the Roller Derby Holiday Party. One of the best times I’ve had out lately. I also got to surprise everyone with the Skate Cake I made for the occasion. Everyone seemed to love it. Went into detail on the derby skate, made the logo made sure the wheels were even edible etc. I love how it came out and I felt really proud and accomplished presenting this and seeing everyone’s reactions. I was really happy that not only did they love how it looked but also how it tasted!

Mario Cake
So I was asked recently to make a Mario theme cake and decided to go with the Mario Mushroom. I used rice crispies for the top and cake for the rest. I covered the entire cake in fondant. I really had a blast with this cake and apparently the people who orderered the cake loved it so much they asked that next year I make the Mario Bomb for them.

Ducky Cake
So for my niece’s 1st Birthday I made her a cake that looked like a duck. Originally I wanted to make a 3-D cake however the recipe that I used in the mold was too dense and therefore didn’t rise enough to get both sides of the duck. So i thought ok i’ll make another duck and just put the two together, well the other cake recipe (which from now on i’m using for wedding cakes and have used in the past). Both cakes tasted good mind you but the other had more rise so I used that for the one sided ducky cake (it was also bigger). Melissa and Iacopo loved the cake, in fact everyone loved it. Here is a pic of the cake and also one of the birthday girl

So this is the plan
So yes I really need to post more often. This should be my New school year but not going to school for once resolution
.
Anyways I finished the externship out east. OMG I’m so happy I’m done. The woman was horrid. She treated employees as if they were less then human. She called me stupid, said I don’t know what I’m doing, and not everyone is ment to make cakes. And she was surprised I wasn’t crying when she told me that she couldnt’ hire me I was unhireable (she lied about going to pay me to work until the end of september after my externship and free 210 working hrs were over) since I cried every day (oh soo not true).
So my decision is this…I plan on proving her dead wrong! I’m starting my own cake business. I know I can do it, I like making creative edible works of art and I am good at it despite what she says! My friend Rei is making my company logo
and my friend Meaghan took it upon herself to start making a website for me. Now all I have to do is make more cakes and take pictures. I have Re’s wedding cake pics (see picture in this blog), my friend Sarah’s graduation cake for next week, I have a baby shower cake for later this month, and my niece’s 1st bday cake. So now all I have to do is figure out pricing and keep up my confidence with my dream. I also plan on writing freelance for either a food magazine, write some short stories finally, and continue makin desserts for Villa Napoli, my bf’s restaurant.
I can do this! I will bring Pixie Cakes to life. Oh and I know I’m not bad like that woman said, since I applied to another place and while they don’t have openings currently they did like my work, were impressed and said to keep up the good work (and she’s not related to me)!
