Calla Lilly Cake
So for a wedding rehearsal dinner I was asked to make a cake for the bride, groom and bridesmaid who were all celebrating their birthdays. I decided to go with a Calla Lilly cake since I hadn’t made those flowers in awhile and felt they would look very elegant. Here is the cake:

Fun with Marzipan
So recently I’ve been going back to the city to goto cake classes at my old school. I took a marzipan workshop for two days with aclaimed cake artist, Toba Garrett. We worked on marzipan fruit and also characters:

Betty Cake
So last week an old friend of mine asked if I could make them a cake for a friends birthday party. Ok I said thinking I have enough time to do that and also Bianca’s christening cake. “What do you want?” So then he tells me they want to get a naked lady cake….
Now my policy is I won’t do erotic naked body part cakes. I just don’t feel comfy doing that and then I also don’t want to be known as the girl who makes penis/boob cakes. So I tell him I”ll do the cake if she’s wearing clothing.
So I’m very impressed with how it came out. It looks really lifelike (minus the largeness of the boobs) and I think it came out really well. It was a fun and not to hard cake to do. I wound up naming her Betty after Betty Paige.

Snowflake Wedding Cake
So this week I made my first red velvet cake. I had a cream cheese filling inside and topped the cake with a thin blue fondant. I decorated the cake with snowflakes all around with homemade royal icing. I think that I’m going to tinker a little bit with the red velvet cake recipe to make it a little more sturdy for stacking tiers. Otherwise I think the cake came out wonderful and looked great.

Army Helmet Cake
So at the last minute I was requested to make a camouflage cake for a girl who is going away to join the US Army. While i wasn’t too keen on the short amount of time that i got to make the cake, who am I to turn down a paying customer? So I was asked to make an camouflage cake they didn’t cake what flavors it was and they even asked for a dozen cupcake pops (with the army colors).
So I wound up making a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting and decided to one up their request. I figured instead of just a regular circle cake with camouflage on it, I made the cake look like an actual army helmet.

So from what I heard they all loved the cake and the cupcake pops. I’m really happy and I had a blast making this cake. I think it came out really really well.

Daisy Wedding Cake
So this week I made a Daisy Wedding Cake for Villa Napoli’s Pasta Night. It consisted of a chocolate cake, vanilla frosting and a very thin layer of fondant on the outside, covered in a million gumpaste daisies that I hand made. I had a blast making this from top to bottom. To me making cakes is so relaxing and I very much enjoy making gumpaste flowers. I feel this is probably one of my better cakes and the more I make they just keep getting better and better.
I need to sign up for more flower and decorating classes at ICE cause I want to learn more and improve. Muppet also suggested that I look into signing up for sculpting classes, alas I don’t know anyplace to go for that. I should ask some art friends and also look at community colleges to see what they offer.
Anyways here is the cake. Let me know what you think.

Cupcake Pops
So I decided to try and make something cute and little. I made cupcake pops which are little cakes dipped in chocolate on a stick. So far they’ve been going over really well. I’m hoping that people see them and think hey this would be a great favor at my next wedding/birthday/bridal & or baby shower events. I really liked making them and think they’re going to be a regular up front at the restaurant.

Present Cake
Ok so this week I figured that I should make a cake each week and sell it at the store. Not only would it give me experience and more practice in cake designing but also I could advertise my skills and delicious art.
This week I made a present cake where truth be told if I had used turquoise fondant it would have been a Tiffany box.
Here is the picture:

Roller Derby Cake
So last night was the Roller Derby Holiday Party. One of the best times I’ve had out lately. I also got to surprise everyone with the Skate Cake I made for the occasion. Everyone seemed to love it. Went into detail on the derby skate, made the logo made sure the wheels were even edible etc. I love how it came out and I felt really proud and accomplished presenting this and seeing everyone’s reactions. I was really happy that not only did they love how it looked but also how it tasted!

Football Cake
So my friend’s girlfriend asked me to please make her boyfriend a cake for his 26th birthday. He’s a very big football fan so she wanted a football cake for him. Originally she was going to buy a cake mold for it but I told her I knew how to make it without a mold.
I am really happy with the outcome of the cake. I really felt acomplished being able to carve the cake myself and not need a mold to give it the shape. Also the board came out really nice; made it part of a football field and even put a pylon at the goal line. We even wrote his name in the endzone.
I didn’t get to see him at the party since I was at practice ( i finished making the cake, delivered it then went to practice for derby), But from what I hear he really really drunkenly loved the pylon.
